GRID-PAVER INSTALLATION
Q: How quick is a Grid-Paver installation?
A: One person can install over 1,000 sq ft of Grid-Paver in one hour, on an already prepared surface. Again: 1 person; 1 hour; per 1,000 square feet.
Q: Does the Grid-Paver have an Interlocking System?
A: YES… Grid-Pavers have unique interlocking lugs that create a solid surface.
Q: Could pre-connected Grid-Paver layers be disconnected?
A: YES …The pre-connected layers can be taken apart if necessary. To do so, place the layer you wish to take apart on the top of another layer. Using your foot, press the grid you want to remove down and out of the safety locking system.
Q: Could the Grid-Paver be cut to fit?
A: YES … For quick and clean tile cutting the following tools have proved most effective in practice: Circular saw, Reciprocal saw, Compass saw.
Q: Is possible to make a curve with Grid-Paver?
A: YES, you can cut–to–fit Grid-Pavers.
Q: Can I lay the Grid-Paver on a sloped driveway?
A: Absolutely. Grid-Paver offers a unique locking system. 5% to 20% grades are common. Each tile is firmly locked on two sides to the next creating a highly secure surface. If you are still worried about laying it on a slope then you can place a few anchors for additional stability.
Q: Will the gravel in the Grid-Paver run down the slope?
A: Definitely not, within the main grid there are little squares within which gravel is compacted and locked.
Q: Securing Grid-Paver System to the substructure?
A: It could be done with steel anchor spikes.
Q: Can you Snowplow Grid-Paver?
A: YES, Simply SNOWPLOW 1 inch above the paver. Adjust the skid setting on the blade. Recommend using a Two-Stage SNOW BLOWER for hand-push snow removal. The Grid-Paver design actually improves tire traction and shoe grip. Check the video on GWP YouTube.
Q: Can you use salt and deicer on Grid-Paver?
A: YES… Grid-Paver can withstand chemical (salt) treatment. Also, as snow and ice melt, it drains down into the Grid-Paver so recommendation is a slight decrease in salt or even elimination of deicer application.
Q: Does the Grid-Paver create black ice?
A: NO! Virtually no black ice. Grid-Paver enhances walking and tire traction. On porous pavements, no standing water occurs, and thus — in areas with good solar exposure — plowing at the time of snowfall is sufficient for winter maintenance, resulting in a virtual elimination of deicer application.
Q: Can I turf or lay seed in the Grid-Paver to create a ‘lawn’ that I can park on?
A: YES, imagine going out to ‘mow’ the driveway, totally porous, aesthetic and environmentally friendly.
Q: Does Grass filled Grid-Paver require any special maintenance?
A: Grass filled Grid-Pavers requiring only basic lawn maintenance (watering, fertilizer and mowing).
Q: How does the Grid-Paver perform in Flood area?
A: Filled pavers are heavy enough and when connected should perform well in flood. In flood area recommended securing Grid-Paver System to the substructure with steel anchor spikes.
Q: How does Grid-Paver perform when there is a Land Movement?
A: Minor land movements should not disrupt the condition of the area paved with Grid-Paver. The paved surface moves according to the land movement below it. If any damage occurs, it can be easily fixed by cutting the tabs, removing pavers, fix the surface, and again install the same pavers, then fasten them together or anchoring with earth nails.
Q: What about the Installation of Grid-Paver on SAND?
A: Grid-Pavers could be installed directly on sand, without any base. (A technique used by US Military on sand). Pavers can be put upside down on sand. Also “Sandwich” application works well with sand.
Q: What is a Grid-Paver “Sandwich” application?
A: Innovative Grid-Paver “Sandwich” application reduces gravel requirements cost (“Sandwich” application: first layer of Grid-Pavers on the base (soil), fill pavers with gravel, thickness depends on the load, second layer of Grid-Pavers on the surface, fill with gravel.) “Sandwiching” serves as an excellent cost reduction and/or soil/gravel stabilization technique.
SAFETY:
Q: Can Grid-Paver be installed on highways?
A: NO. Very heavy trucking generate tremendous horizontal inertia when braking at high speeds. For safety reasons, best to install Grid-Paver on access roads with max speed up to 30 miles per hour.
Q: Can the Grid-Paver be installed on bridges?
A: NO. Grid-Paver is inapplicable to span bridges. This means it shouldn’t be used to span or hang as a bridge or over holes.
Q: What about women with high heel shoes?
A: YES. Women can easily walk on Grid-Paver with high heel shoes. Check the video on GWP YouTube.
Q: Does the Grid-Paver Permeable Pavement surface conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements?
A: YES. ADA Design Guidelines require that surfaces be firm, stable and slip resistant. Permeable Pavement designs can provide a firm and stable surface for visually impaired persons and those using wheeled mobility devices. Check the video on GWP YouTube.
STORM WATER
Q: What MS4 stands for?
A: Municipal Separate Sewer & Stormwater System
Q: How to calculate storm water?
A: Storm water calculator is on this link:
https://www.epa.gov/water-research/national-stormwater-calculator
Q: How does the Grid-Paver help manage storm water run-off and pollutants removal?
A: Grid-Paver’s permeable surface and gravel sub-base temporarily store rainwater runoff, as an Aquifer would, before infiltrating into the subsoil. When rainwater infiltrates directly through Grid-Paver and into the soil, it receives purification treatment. Hydrocarbons from cars, pet waste, nitrogen, and other pollutants are filtered and removed by bioremediation, before polluting the ground water. In the void spaces of the sub-base of Grid-Paver naturally occur micro-organisms that digest car oils. Gravel sub-base also captures the heavy metals preventing them from washing downstream and accumulating in the environment.
Q: What is Clean Water Act (CWA)?
A: In the United States, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is charged with regulating storm water pursuant to the Clean Water Act (CWA). The goal of the CWA is to restore all “Waters of the United States” to their “fishable” and “swimmable” conditions.
